Sailfish
Costa Rica's signature species. Famous for explosive aerial acrobatics — multiple hookups daily during peak season out of Quepos.
Blue Marlin
The ultimate trophy fish. Some of the largest marlin in the world pass through Quepos waters — concentrated offshore May through October.
Yellowfin Tuna
One of the hardest-fighting fish in the ocean. Found every month — often in large schools near spinner dolphins offshore.
Mahi-Mahi
Brilliantly colored and acrobatic. Abundant around weed lines year-round, with the biggest runs from October through December.
Roosterfish
An iconic inshore species found along the beaches and rocky points of Manuel Antonio. Non-migratory and available year-round.
Wahoo
Lightning-fast with razor-sharp teeth. A prized catch for serious anglers — most active from January through September offshore.
Cubera Snapper
One of the most sought-after inshore species in Costa Rica. Found around rocky structure and reefs close to the coast of Manuel Antonio.
Grouper
Goliath and Red Grouper inhabit the reefs and rocky bottoms near Manuel Antonio. Strong fighters and excellent table fare.
Jack Crevalle
Aggressive and hard-fighting. Jack Crevalle are available year-round in the nearshore waters and are excellent on light tackle.
Striped Marlin
Often mixed in with sailfish during peak dry season. Striped marlin are acrobatic fighters that push every angler to their limit.
Bonito
A reliable target on both inshore and offshore trips. Bonito are fast, scrappy fish that keep the action going between bigger species.
Sierra Mackerel
A light-tackle favorite on inshore trips. Sierra Mackerel are fast, feisty, and a great species for beginners and families.
