FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions Full-Day Charter

What fish can I catch on the full-day offshore charter?

The main targets are sailfish, blue marlin, striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, and wahoo. Your captain will read current ocean conditions — water temperature, bait activity, and weed lines — to put you on the most active species on the day of your trip.

How far offshore will we go?

Prime fishing grounds are 20–40 miles offshore from Quepos Marina. The full-day charter gives your captain maximum flexibility to travel further if the bite is better out deep — something the 3/4 day option doesn’t always allow. You’ll be in trophy fish territory within 30–45 minutes of departure.

Is the full-day offshore worth it vs the 3/4 day?

For serious anglers, yes — the extra 2–3 hours make a meaningful difference. More time means covering more ground, more bites, and more opportunities to land multiple species in one trip. The full-day is our recommendation for anglers specifically targeting marlin or large yellowfin tuna schools that require traveling further offshore.

What about seasickness?

Offshore fishing involves open Pacific ocean conditions. If you’re prone to motion sickness, take Dramamine or Bonine the night before your trip — not the morning of, as most medications work best when taken in advance. The morning run to the grounds is generally the calmest part of the trip. Conditions can build in the afternoon, which is worth bearing in mind for a 9-hour day.

Can we keep the fish we catch?

All billfish — sailfish, blue marlin, and striped marlin — are strictly catch-and-release. Mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo are excellent table fare and you’re welcome to keep legal catches. Our crew will clean and fillet your catch on board so it’s ready to cook when you get back to shore.

What's the best month for the full-day offshore charter?

There is no bad month to fish Quepos offshore. December through April brings spectacular sailfish action with multiple hookups per trip common. May through September delivers the big blue marlin and massive yellowfin tuna schools. October and November see marlin peak alongside the return of sailfish. Book any month with confidence.

How do I book and what do I need to bring?

Contact us via WhatsApp or email to confirm your date and availability. Bring sunglasses, non-spray sunblock, a light layer for the morning run, and a valid ID. Everything else — rods, reels, bait, tackle, food, and drinks — is provided. No fishing license required; it’s included in your charter.
