FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

3/4 Day Offshore Charter
— Frequently Asked Questions

What fish can I catch on the 3/4 day offshore charter?

The main targets are sailfish, blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, and wahoo. Black marlin and striped marlin are also possible during their respective seasons. Your captain will target the most active species based on current ocean conditions on the day of your trip.

Is 6–7 hours enough time for offshore fishing?

Absolutely. Prime offshore fishing grounds are 30–45 minutes from Quepos Marina. A 3/4 day gives you 5+ hours of active fishing time — more than enough for multiple hookups on sailfish, tuna, or mahi-mahi. Most of our best trips happen on the 3/4 day option.

What's the difference between the 3/4 day and the full-day offshore?

The full-day gives you 2–3 extra hours offshore — useful for covering more ground and targeting additional species. The 3/4 day returns by 2:00 PM, leaving your afternoon free. For most anglers, the 3/4 day hits the sweet spot between results and comfort.

Should I be worried about seasickness?

Offshore fishing involves open ocean conditions that can be rougher than inshore. If you’re prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking Dramamine or Bonine the night before your trip. The morning is generally calmer — conditions tend to pick up in the afternoon, which is why returning by 2:00 PM works in your favor.

Can we keep the fish we catch?

Yes — mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo are excellent table fare and you’re welcome to keep legal catches. All billfish (sailfish, blue marlin, black marlin) are strictly catch-and-release. Our crew will clean and fillet your catch on board so it’s ready for the pan.

What's the best time of year for offshore fishing in Quepos?

December through April is peak sailfish season — multiple hookups per trip are common. May through September brings the large blue marlin and big yellowfin tuna. Mahi-mahi and wahoo are available year-round. There truly is no bad month to fish Quepos offshore.
